| Escondido
is home to the San Diego Wild Animal Park,
a 1,800 acre wildlife preserve featuring over 3,500 exotic animals
including 38 endangered species of mammals and 11 endangered species of
birds. The park has been landscaped to allow these creatures to roam as
they might in their native Asia and Africa places of origin. The Park also
features a tram which allows you to see the animals roaming in their
natural habitat. For an additional fee, you can join a individualized
photo
safari. From I-15, take exit 27 (Via Rancho Parkway), turn right onto the Parkway and follow the signs east to the Park.
Jumping
from the wild to the very tame, Escondido is also home to the 600 acre
Lawrence Welk Resort.
Only 11 miles from the
Wild Animal Park, Hotel amenities include an on-site restaurant, deli and
pizza shop, two 18-hole golf courses, live theatre and entertainment,
shopping, tennis instruction, six swimming pools, a 140-ft. waterslide,
fitness center, concierge services, babysitting services, free parking,
and biking and hiking activities. Rates range from less than $230 for a
one bedrom villa
with kitchen to around $350 for a two bedroom villa suite with kitchen,
living area, and patio or balcony. |
